Detailed Appearance
Hel is on the shorter side of the height scale, standing roughly 5’4” and weighing 140lbs. Her frame is all bone and muscle, hard and scarred. Her skin is a pale purple-ish, icy in complexion.
Her eyes are her most notable feature, the right one being nearly black with flecks of grey, the left being an odd shade of purple, flecked with red that is barely noticeable at the best of times. Her ears are delicately pointed, and her face is on the softer side, with hints of sharper-featured ancestry. There is a small scar on her cheek, along with a scar across the bridge of her nose, touching both eyes. Another, smaller scar sits just above her left ear, mostly hidden by her black hair, which falls almost to her waist when not bound by the pink hair tie.
Across her eyes lie the more gruesome of her facial scars, which look as if a dagger had been dragged haphazardly across her faceand cutting into both eyes during the proccess. For the sake of others around her, Hel often keeps a brown blindfold to cover them with, although she is just fine without it on. The scarring, once so vivid while she was human, has faded somewhat, although in the right light it can be very noticable, and they have left her eyes slightly narrowed.
Her hands are scarred and calloused from several lifetimes working with blades and bows and handicrafting, and her claws are a light silver in color. They are kept reasonably short, although they can still do damage if needed. The talons on her feet are almost delicate.
Hel’s wings are in the shape of a Harpy Eagle, and are black with dark grey primaries, with silver traces of aether hidden amongst the feathers.

Detailed History
Hel was born to the Chanter duo Karm and Niyati in Morheim’s Alsig Village, and grew up among the tripeed fields alongside her twin sister Nemesis. Her father was a daeva, and perhaps the relationship with Hel's human mother was not quite the best idea in Atreia, but the love between the two Chanters couldn't be denied. Some years later, it was also whispered that Karm saw his mate's ascension, which is why he chose to stay with her.
Niyati ascended during Hel’s early teen years, when it was thought that Hel hadn’t survived a group of Lepharists who had rather brazenly attacked the Desert Garrison while Hel was helping with some long-forgotten task. Her parents were naturally overjoyed that Hel survived with some scratches and bruises, along with a broken arm that only took a couple weeks to recover from, as opposed o a death.
In her later teens, Hel met Cain, a young assassin from Beluslan who was moving into Alsig Village to help n elderly grandmother. He was a few years her senior, and they hit it off, despite Hel’s father’s disapproving stare.
Cain and Hel became close, and in Hel’s mid-twenties Cain sprung a surprise proposal on a startled Hel, who accepted. Hel’s father still wasn’t enthusiastic about their relationship, but Hel and her mother were happy and Cain was ultimately a gentleman. That fall, they were married.
But then, everything changed when the Elyos attacked. Hel and Cain had lived quietly for some years as part of the Alsig Watch, and Hel had just turned 31. Elyos ambushed a patrol, and Hel was blinded by the swipe of a well-aimed (or not so well-aimed) greataxe that missed cleaving her skull. A couple of the patrolmen with her were slain, and Hel was kept alive by her mother, until Hel’s sister and father arrived to help. Cain took off after the gladiator that had blinded his wife in a whirlwind of wrath, and managed to kill him before retreating back to the village, anxiously pacing a hole in the ground as he waited for news on Hel's condition.
When Cain found out Hel’s vision could not be saved, he asked around for help, while hand-carving a cane for Hel. Hel refused to idly sit by as a cripple, and Cain agreed with her and chose to support her. Cain found an ancient spiritmaster by the name of Skadi, who lived in the desolate tundras of Beluslan.
Skadi agreed to help, and through a great deal of research later, was able to summon a wind spirit and bind it to Hel’s soul instead of her own, and they started training the spirit as a guide-worg, of the immortal sort.
The spirit’s name was Solana, and Hel, despite not really being a dog person (or a spirit person, in this case) found herself growing close, even attached to the spirit. They worked well together, and Skadi showed Hel how to see the aether flowing around them, so that she might be able to do most of what she had done while sighted normally, with the great wind spirit at her side.
Things happened, and soon Hel was pregnant with her first child, a girl, to her (And Cain’s) delight. Things were slowly beginning to return to normal for Hel.
Or not. During her seventh month of pregnancy, Elyos attacked, again. Both Hel and Cain were asleep, Cain’s arms curled protectively around his wife. The group of assassins ad snuck into the village and their home, evading the guards.
Hearing a noise, Hel awoke first, her stirring rousing Cain from his sleep. Nobody knows for sure precisely what happened, but Hel clearly remembers the knife in her back, then in her stomach. Cains choking rasp as he struggled to protect her and failed, Solana’s snarls. Pain. Excruciating, unbearable. Hel had lost her baby. Cain had tried to fight back, but unarmed (And likely unclothed, for that matter) he stood little chance. The pair ascended as one, the aether struggling to heal their wounds. Cain’s black and silver gyrefalcon wings flared around Hel, and he spun, taking a knife to the throat where it would have pierced Hel’s instead. His last words a choked out “No.”
He died in her arms, and the assassins, probably thinking that Hel was on her way out too, fled the wrath of Solana, who chased after them, a loud snarl on her lips.
Hel fell unconscious from blood loss and shock, and when she woke, Nemesis stood over her, snapping out healing spell after healing spell. Hel could only cry, overwhelmed by both grief and the trauma of ascending so suddenly.
When Hel recovered from those particular traumas, she was brought to Pandaemonium. Where she once would have been enthusiastic about ascending, it was instead hollow as she walked down the aisle to spread her wnigs before Baldur, Solana a silent breath of cold air next to her.
The ceremony itself was mercifully short, and Hel slunk back to Morheim, keeping her head down and doing her best to stay out of view of just about everyone. She began to remaster her skills with the bow, slowly, ever so slowly. Skadi was a mage first and foremost, and the bow and arrow did not come naturally to one who was used to a spellbook and a flame.
Some centuries later, Hel took an assignment and was sent off to Gelkmaros Fortress. Initially stiff and cool with the others there, she's since come into her own and has learned to make the most of it. While she'd rather be sinking her arrows into those blasted ellies, she'd settle for Balaur just as well. And her new comrades were nice enough, Hel found herself growing to like this strange Balaurean land.
---Fast-forward an unknown amount of years later, to Upheaval---
After Beritra's vicious assault and sinking of so much of Balaurea, Hel did what she could to help get Asmodians and Reians to safety. Her sister, Nemesis, went missing and Hel sank into the quiet misery she had known centuries beforehand. Like many of the archons in Gelkmaros who had missing relatives and loved ones, she spent much of her free-time stalking the remote places of Gelkmaros, Enshar and even Cygnea, searching for her sister, who so far has not been found.

Unique Abilities
Aethersight (Passive) - Hel is able to sense (or more accurately, see) the aether of everything around her. Taught by Skadi Snowcaller after going blind, the ability actually extends to more than just aether, as she is able to see Drana and Ide, even Idium if she focuses. The ability lets her navigate the world with more ease and is much of the reason she is still an excellent archer even blind, but she also be rendered truly blind if there is too much aether surrounding her.
Bound Spirit - Once again with the help of Skadi, a wind spirit is permanently bound to Hel, a "guide dog" of sorts for the blind ranger. The two communicate via telepathy and the spirit is always close. Solana does not assist in combat, but rather is solely for the purpose of helping Hel navigate the area safely. Looking badass could also be considered part of the job description. Solana will never vanish, unless in the case of Hel's own permanent death.
